Cross pinto with tangerine tiger

Recommended Posts

Hi there...

I started with pintos shrimps , and i start to make mischlings.

Now i have 2 females pintos wiht eggs, 6 crs with eggs for making f1 hybrid and  two tangerine with eggs.

What can i expect from  tangerine tigers?

Did anyone try this crossbreeding ?

F1 are usually fairly plain but things get interesting by F3-4. I have bred many of them it just depends on where you want to go and what you like. Hybrids are interesting in that you never really know what you might get. As Pintos turned up in hybrid breeding initially you have a bit of a head start but you may end up with a lot of plain shrimp too.image.thumb.jpg.f3c4d6e079d96006cf67910f86368c89.jpgimage.thumb.jpg.c2ae9f4d3579df17a0108d43d3b96ac3.jpgimage.thumb.jpg.c15377146060e5959fb4a21010b41520.jpgimage.jpg.9e8c45660c8545b274eab263dc5f4f1e.jpg

Thanks for reply. ..

Those photos are f3-f4?

what is your opinion for faster breeding pinto taiwan.

Wiht making  hybrids or wait and stay without hybrids?

I can make a tank to put all the hybrids in there, and keep biger f.. female with pinto .

the red ones are F3 the others are F1 and F2.

I used to breed mostly taitibees -hybrids of Taiwan Bee and Tiger shrimp. Now we have better genetics to use - aura and Galaxy shrimp so there isn't so much interest in the ordinary taitibees. With early  hybrids it was  hard to establish a line that bred true and once I got to F10 I was getting more shrimp that looked  either like Taiwan Bees or Tigers. After 6 years i never established a true breeding line.

My opinion now is to keep pure lines pure and use culls from your pure line to experiment with the hybrids. we seem to be losing pure Tb and even the pintos were originally a hybrid that generally breeds fairly true although we seem to be losing the good patterns. people no longer seem to be culling out the irregular patterns so you usually see all types of patterns in tanks. When we had our pure lines they had distinct patterns rather than the random patterns you see now.

Since we are getting more variety entering Australia -  please remember it is still illegal to import shrimp but they are getting here - we have more opportunity to breed  exciting patterns that were not available in the early days of shrimp keeping here.

At the end of the day it is what ever interests you - if you want to experiment then do so - after all it is a hobby that we all enjoy. As long as people let buyers know their shrimp are hybrids then there is no harm. Unfortunately you need lots of tanks to breed hybrids and have tanks for pure lines too. I have resorted to putting my culls outside in ponds where they still breed despite no heating in winter and no cooling in summer.

In the last picture you can see the random patterns I'm talking about these are in fact Taitibees some have pinto genes butthey don't have the nice crisp bands that good Taiwan Bee should have

Good I look forward to seeing how you go. I love my hybrids but the really good pure lines are best left alone - there are plenty of culls to play with ☺️

I will post .... in some months the progress of the tibees....

This is why we end up with MTS (Multi Tank Syndrome).

One tank is never enough.

You need one for Pure Lines, cause you need to keep some pure genetics.

You need another tank for experimenting with hybrids.

One for culls.

Then one tank again for each variety of shrimp ...

You NEVER EVER EVER have enough tanks! Now I'm down to only 1 I keep seeing shrimp that I think might just be worth playing with ! I really do miss my shrimp room!

I  move the tibee to a 50 liter with hybrids.

In the 100 liter i loose the babies of the tibee, i dont know something in the water.

Also see some  planaria.

And i want to risk it so i move them , and add no planaria in the 100.

Now its empty.

Here are the hybrids...

There are a lot..

From tangerine tigers, cbs , crs..

I got in F1 spoted head .

From taiwan i get 3 king kongs .

Also tibee x tibee give only tibee... not hybrids, i know that because they are new and small.

moving hybrids to another tank and let the taiwan pinto babies grow faster.

I moved around 200 babies to 100lt tank.

I will see how i do it after growing up.

Is it possible to get orange eye blue tigers, from tibee x taiwan or tibee x tibee?

I have one blue baby, with orange eyes, also a king kong wit orange eye.

its my mistake that read it from the internet, that its faster make taiwans and tibee from hybrids.

Now i have around 200 babies f1 hybrids and i dont know what to do with them , because

i have around 40-50 taiwans -pintos babies from parents.

Its breed almsot 99% true

No. Don't think so. At least not a pure OEBT.

have you sucessfully breed your own fancy tiger ..?

Hi Welcome to SKFA.

Who were you asking?

what would be the cross? crs and oebt?

An OEBT is a tiger shrimp.

So CRS x OEBT is a Tibee.

thx for your reply... JAYC, yes.. I want to seek your comment what should I do to start my fancy tiger project...but I am a bit confuse..

so what should I do after I got F1 from crs x oebt?

should I just keep breeding f1 x f1 = f2 ... so on.. or do I need to breed back to crs or crs parents to get more solid white and red to get f2?

Good to have an update and good to hear you are getting shrimplets, so hopefully your colony will continue and you may not get to the point where you have to cull some to stop over population. These type of shrimp only live 12 - 18 months so the adult deaths may be natural? If you have the time I would do weekly 25% water changes, adding the new water via a drip system and do some vacuuming clean of the substrate each week, even if only a different bit each week! See if that helps in a few months and if it does then stick with that regime? It should help reduce any build-ups that may be occuring!

Hello again, much belated update: The tank still has "cycles" of 1-2 month "good streaks" where everybody seems to be doing well, and then a bad streak where the short antenna problem shows up again, and a shrimp dies once every few days.  I am not sure what causes things to go bad, but usually over the course of a few days I will start to see more shrimp quietly standing on the HMF filter, and so I know something is wrong.  Since I am not "doing anything" besides the regular 1-2 week water changes, I just assume that something bad is building up.  Here's a list of things that I've tried that are supposed to be "can't hurt" but didn't prevent the problem either: Dose every other day with Shrimp Fit (very small dose, and the shrimp seem to like it) Sotching Oxydator Seachem Purigen to keep the nitrates lower Keeping the pH below 5.5 with peat Things that I don't do often, so could possibly "reset" the tank back to a good streak, are gravel vac and plant trim, so maybe time to try those again. One other problem I used to have was that sometimes a shrimp would suddenly stop eating with a full or partially full digestive tract that doesn't clear out, and then the shrimp will die within a few days.  I suspected it was one of the foods in my rotation - Shrimp Nature Infection, which contains a bunch of herbal plant things.  I've had this in my food rotation for a few years now and generally didn't seem to cause problems, but I removed it from the rotation anyway.  I don't have a lot of adult Golden Bees at this point so I can't really tell if it worked or not. Overall the tank is not too bad - during the good streaks occasionally a shrimp will get berried and hatch babies with a 33-50% survival rate.  So while there are fewer adults now, there are also a bunch of babies roaming around.  I guess this tank will stagger on, but I really do need to take the time to start up a new tank.  (or figure out the problem)

If that is the offspring, then the parents are unlikely to be PRL. I tend to agree with you. There are very few PRLs in Australia. And any that claim to be needs to show proof. PRL genes have to start as PRL. CRS that breed true after x generations doesn't turn it into a PRL. Neither can a Taiwan bee shrimp turn into a PRL despite how ever many generations. I've never seen a PRL with that sort of red colour. I have on Red Wines and Red Shadows - Taiwan bee shrimps. So somewhere down the line one of your shrimp might have been mixed with Taiwan bees and is no longer PRL. It just tanks one shrimp to mess up the genes of a whole colony.
    • sdlTBfanUK
Sorry, missed this one somehow! The PRL look fantastic and the odd ones look part PRL and part Red wine/Red shadow in the colour. They are still very beautiful but ideally should be seperated to help keep the PRL clean if you can do that.  Nice clear photos!
    • GtWalker97
Hi SKF!   So I bought some PRL (or at least they were sold as such. These claims are dubious in Australia as people don't know much about the genetics, nor do they care as long as they can make a quick buck). After 8 generations of breeding true, I'm having around 1 in 200 throw a much darker red. They almost look like Red Shadows, but I don't know too much about those types of hybrid. Can anyone help with ID'ing the gene?   TIA (First 2 pics are the weird throws, second photo is their siblings and the last photo is the parents)
