Started my breeding setup for panda shrimp,

Size - 60lt

Filtration - 2 x sponge filters

Fauna - black panda shrimp

Flora - bucephalandra Melawi, Susswasertang, pearl moss, cabomba

Substrate - Dennerle Shrimp Soil

Heater - 22 degrees

Hardscape - spiderwood

Mineral balls x 2

Would like to add some cholla wood

Some of the buce is tied onto some lava rock.

Added some cull pumpkin shrimp to check if tank is cycled lol...

Any advice would appreciated if I need to add something.. 1c60b9965e7c2f5fe47bd749c8d7bea1.jpg

Nice, would make a nice shrimp only tank... (hint, hint), haha.

Perhaps a little log cave for the Pandas for shelter, also to breed in time as well.

Yeah shrimp only man,

Will scout for a cave somewhere in South Africa, otherwise eBay. EBay might take a while, maybe diy with some pvc piping and coat it.

Wonder what coating to use for the pvc piping safe for shrimp?

Thanks for the feedback@WhySoCRS

Crystal Red Shrimp & Crystal Black Shrimp mate, beautiful shrimp, look after them.

I would strongly advise not to add fish in that tank!

I’ve started to get back into shrimp keeping & breeding & that’s what I have also, a very popular & loved shrimp.

Yeah they do breed,

Actually panda shrimp, note the black face.

I setup this tank exclusively for them and definitely no fish lol.

Will separate them from the CRS when tank is fully cycled. Should be in a week or two.

Why would you want to coat it?

To stick some gravel on it? -> use aquarium silicon.

Sorry, I just Googled Black Panda Shrimp & read up, not a shrimp I had heard of & are different to Crystal Black Shrimp.

Panda's are Taiwan Bees, and refers to a colour variation.

Like Red Wines are another colour variation of Taiwan Bees.

When I read this post at 4 am this morning sitting outside of work I misread this as Panda Cories, not Panda Shrimp, argh, hence the comment on a cave for breeding & not having fish & shrimp in there.

Night shift? Busy reading up on crossing pandas with crs sss, create some mischlings and strengthen the TB gene in them. When moving them I'll look for stronger mischlings and add them to this panda tank.

Hope I'm making sense...

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
