Hello,

Awhile back I ordered a cheap little heater from eBay, $13 free shipping, it arrived today.

It says "explosion proof" Carbon fibre 230v 16w preset 25c -/+ 1c. Came with an Asian plug and I couldn't find the same model with au plug.

Quite a nice little unit with indicator light,

Red= active heating.

Blue= At temp.

I got a $50 Bunnings gift card for my birthday but can't be bothered going anywhere today to buy a new plug, So I found an old 2 wire power cord and some insulated 250v screw connectors and wired it up like this for now, Still a fully safe stable connection and would be fine to leave as is, but I'll get a plug one day soon.

Brown to brown, Blue to blue- pretty simple, sometimes old wires use different colours, tbh the polarity hasn't seemed to matter on any of the other non earthed 2 wire devices I've used, but it's still a good idea to just follow the colours there.

Ensure the wires are clean and making solid connection, and the screws are tight enough to hold them securely in place.- don't leave bare wire hanging out. Also make sure the connectors are 250v rated as some aren't.

One of the suction cups came broken, I'll tell the seller, but for now I just replaced it with a spare I had, The suction cup that wasn't broken looks really good and holds the heater very well, all in all it actually looks like a very well made unit, very clean and tidy, nice construction.

Installed, plugged in and operating fine, will have to monitor it over the next few days to see how it holds temp, it's in a 15L tank holding about 10L of water.

Minimum temp in that tank through winter has been around 15c, This heater is replacing a faulty aquaone heater I was able to get a refund on.

So far quite impressed.

      Hey folks!
      So I got myself a little 5 gallon (20L) recently (it was free!) to use for quarantine. I’m going to use it to qt some cory cats and maybe some tetras or gouramis for my community tank. The thing is, I’ve got it set up really nicely in my room and I want to have it actually stocked. I definitely don’t want a betta, but I found some super cute guppies on gumtree (Wild Thai Orchid) that I can never find locally. How many guppies do u think I could get in the tank?? The seller only has 4 pairs, so is selling in pairs but not trios, so that could have an affect on the amount. I also plan on adding shrimp, either of a neo or caridina variety, or native - like dae or chameleons.
      So my questions are: how many guppies could go in the tank (assuming they breed and I keep the babies in with them for about a month each time), could I fit in anything else (with a pair or 4), like a couple of chilli rasboras or rocket killies, and will the shrimps be enough for a cleanup crew, or should I add an Otto or something?
      Cheers!

      Hi I'm an animal enthusiast with many frogs snakes and arachnids but it's my first attempt at caring for cherry shrimp..i researched with my girlfriend quite a bit and already set up a planted tank in a nano 2.6gallon aquarium. It will be cycling and until then I just wanted some feedback on how it looks and what y'all think about it? Thankyou ~

      Hi all, haven't really been on for awhile due to life's challenges that get thrown our way from time to time but have thought I would jump on and ask for some suggestions on the following.
      My Mum has a bright red Betta that she adores and it's currently in a 12g that I use to keep all my shrimp in, well the Betta took care of them all and I'm in the process of making it back into a shrimp only tank with just Anubias on driftwood and Moss, so I am after some suggestions for an all in one nano set up for a Betta, I've looked on eBay and haven't found anything I really like or should I say trust that won't break as some look quite cheap and would like to buy her something decent that will do the job well, checked out the Fluval Chi but think the lighting is quite poor though, so think that's out of the question also.
      Anyway, if anyone could give me some suggestions it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

      Hey there, and thanks for helping. I have a 1.5 gallon that currently has 1 ghost shrimp, 1 cherry shrimp and a solitary male guppy. The guppy leaves the shrimp alone, and the shrimp get along fine. I was wondering how many shrimp I could keep in this tank? It is filled with plants and rocks (water wisteria and 3 Marimo algae balls). The shrimp seem to enjoy it, as they swim around and clean the plants. I do water changes about every two days, not becuase my levels are high, but because I enjoy it. The tank has a filter and air pump. pH is constantly 7.8 and Tempurature is always about 70.

      Brisbane's extended summer is finally drawing to an end and it's time to get some more heaters. Does anyone have recommendations on brands/models to use or avoid using? Petworx are cheap but I'm thinking is this because they like to create shrimp soup?? I'll be after a few 25W and 50W since my tanks are small.
