Hi Guys,

Thought Id put together a dictionary, collected all the bits and pieces from all over the netand tried to make it as universal as possible, its not a copy and paste, even though after doing it it would have been easier and probably the same result :(....

If you can add anything to it that would be awesome maybe some forum specific ones, might be good to put in the welcome section or something.... :)

I know I sometimes struggle with the abbriviations still :(

Aquarium forum abbreviations/Dictionary:

A/C - Air Conditioning

AC - Activated Carbon

ADA - Aqua Design Amano

AGA - All Glass Aquarium

ALK - Alkalinity

B - Boron

BB - Bare Bottom (tank) / Blue Bolts (shrimp) / Beneficial Bacteria

BBA - Black Brush Algae

BBS - Baby Brine Shrimp

BGA - Blue Green Algae

BPS - Bubbles Per Second

C - Carbon

Ca - Calcium

CF - Compact Fluorrescent

Cl - Chlorine

Co2 - Carbon Dioxide

Co3 - Carbonate

Cu - Copper

CUC - Cleanup Crew

dGH - Degrees of Hardness

DI - Deionized Water

dKH - Degrees of carbonate hardness

DO - Dissolved Oxygen

EC - Electrical Conductivity (measurement)

Fe - Iron

Frag - Fragment of live coral

FTS - Full Tank Shot (photo)

FW - Freshwater

Gal - Gallon

GH - General Hardness

GPD - Gallons Per Day

GPH - Gallons Per Hour

GPI - Gallons Per Inch

GPM - Gallons Per Minute

HC - Hemianthus callitrichoides

H - Hydrogen

H+ - Hydrogen ion

H3O+ - Hydronium ion

H2O - Dihygrogen Monoxide (Water)

H2O2 - Hydrogen Peroxide

HCl - Hydrochloric Acid (Muriatic Acid)

HO - High Output

HOB - Hang On the Back (of tank)

I - Iodide

I2 - Iodine

IO3 - Iodate

IR - Infrared

KH - Carbonate Hardness

KI - Potassium iodide

L - Liters

LFS - Local Fish Store

LPD - Liter's Per Day

LPH - Liter's Per Hour

LPM - Liter's Per Minute

Mg - Magnesium

MH - Metal halide light

MO - Mail order

MTS - Mineralised Top Soil / Malaysian Trumpet Snail

Na - Sodium

NaCO3 - Sodium carbonate

NaOH - Sodium hydroxide

NH3 - Ammonia

NH4 - Ammonium

NO - Normal output fluorescent light

NO2 - Nitrite

NO3 - Nitrate

NSW - Natural seawater

O2 - Oxygen

pH - A measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution

PH - Powerhead (water pump)

PO4 - Phosphate

PPM - Parts per million, equivalent to mg/l (milligrams per litre)

PVC - Poly vinyl chloride, used for piping / plumbing

RO - Reverse osmosis, type of water purification

RO/DI - Reverse osmosis, followed by deionisation, type of water purification

SAE - Siamese Algae Eater

SG - Specific gravity

Si - Silicon

SiO2 - Silicon dioxide

Sr - Strontium

SW - Saltwater / seawater

TB - Taiwan Bee

UGF - Under-gravel filter

UV - Ultra violet light

VHO - Very high output fluorescent light

this is a great thread mate and once you are happy with it and its finalized let one of the mods know and we will add it to the library for you..

Great list man. Brilliant idea.

You've got "Bubbles per second" down as BBS not BPS

And BBS could be put down as "baby brine shrimp"

not sure if there is any others but I guess they can always be added down the track anyway.

      Finally set up the 30L Shrimp Tank

      It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

      I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

      Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

      You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
