Sorting and grading large numbers of Shrimp.

Just wonder how everybody sorts and grades their Shrimp.

I have about 200 Cherries ranging from very little colour to solid red.

Do you catch a few and put them in a glass tank (white Background?) to be able to view them easily, white plastic container??

It's something I've been putting off as the task seemed quite daunting but their numbers keep growing and need to move some on.

Mate I do it two ways, The first is my favourite on these warm barmy nights, I sit in front of my tank with the room lights off I have a small spot light, I shine into the tank any shrimp I see that has not the desired thickness of colour I catch and put in my cull tank. The second method I use is to catch a couple of nets full put them in a white plastic hand basin and take a photo of them with my mobile, very easy to count that way, I then take the basin put it under a strong light and grade them that way. I think the first method is the best because you can see the shrimps side on and you can easily pick out the ones that are more opaque and it is a lot easier to pick the sexes side on, than from above. You can then put the keepers into the basin ,photograph and count.:triumphant:

Don't worry about grading them mate. Just take the best looking ones out and discard the rest. Breed the good looking ones until they breed true. Then you can give them a grade.

Was gonna reply, But the two posts above pretty much summed up everything I was gonna say.

I'd let them breed true by removing the less colourful and letting them develop more strong genetics over time.

Just make sure you don't take all the males out as these are usually the less colourful

Thanks for the feedback guys, will get them sorted this evening. I like the Fire Reds so if it has red legs I'll keep it in my display tank.

Everything else can go in the rack.

Cheers.
