Australian Shrimp Championships 2017

So a date has been set and locked in stone!!

Australian Shrimp Championships 2017

9th July 2017

29 Grant St, Clifton Hill, VIC 3068

We wanted to give as much notice as possible, so we can get breeding programs set and so anyone considering travelling down/up/across can take advantage of flight and accommodation deals as they arise!

Categories/Groups as below: (may be altered closer to date, but don't see a need personally!)

Also, one adjustment of note. On the above chart Snow Whites are listed under group 4, this is incorrect and they are judged under group 3, with the other Crystals. ?

Judging criteria as below, this may help you decide on which lines to work with:

Special Note:

Continuity row is based on similarity of colour, size and patterns of group entered. The more similar your three judged shrimp are, the better you will score in this area.

Was wonderful to see many interstate breeders at this year's event, hopefully we can get more of you to attend next year!! ???

Thank you @newbreed this will ensure that the date will be cleared and remain cleared for this event. We will definitely be in attendance in 2017 and thank you to all who were involved in bringing us the highlights and updates for the Shimp Championship 2016, it was really appreciated and also made us a little envious as well.

Will be great to see you there @zn30

Hopefully we will have a whole colony of shrimpkeepers descending on Melbourne for the weekend.

May give us a chance to arrange a SKF catchup dinner/lunch/thingy at some stage too!!

Things can only grow from here as the support for this hobby gets bigger, interesting shrimpkeepers in a group or gathering is now known as a colony, well done @newbreed apologies if anyone else has stated this previously however this is the first we have seen the use of a colony used in reference to a group or gathering of shrimpkeepers.

Haha. My abuse of English language is quite common. Lol

To be honest after last shrimp champs it could be referred to as a gaggle or a pride also! What do they call a group of laughing hyenas??!?

Any gathering of shrimp folk is a good thing! ?

A cackle of hyenas, LOL ? Shrimp, troop or swarm the latter I suppose being appropriate for bee shrimp. A group of people would normally be called simply that, a group "a group of shrimpkeepers" however still like a colony of shrimpkeepers.??

Awesome!!!

I love the continuity concept. I had been wondering about how to gauge that people have a consistent line.

I think I can jiggle around my trip next year so that I can make it back in time.

Thanks all for organising :-)

Love n peace

Will

Not sure what has happened but I have seen posts on Facebook announcing that the 2017 shrimp championships have been cancelled. Am surprised there is no mention of it in SKF but I thought I would mention it here as a few people look like they have things on hold so they can attend. Correct me if I am wrong but the posts seemed pretty certain it is cancelled.:huh-:

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
