Guys, I will be the first to admit that I should have bought those Cardinals at the auction last night. My tank is not yet ready.
If a guy on Gumtree raises them in tap water and @JPN07 has bred and adapted them for easier keeping here in Australia,  is there anything else that interested potential keepers should know apart from adding Sulawesi shrimp salt and off we go?
Do you need special rocks or substrate, or specific types of blankets of algae? Do they eat normal shrimp food? They are classified as a very hard shrimp to keep and I would just like to find out why. Do they kick the bucket for the slightest change in water parameters like small water changes? I have looked at their habitat and taken a mental note that they like to hang out on the underside of hanging rocks, but can it really be that easy?
I have seen photos of setups that look like they were staged for National Geographic, and then I have seen For Sale ads where the tanks look more like swamps with a phosphate problem there is so much algae in it, but it is filled to the brim with babies. What works?

I came across this Japanese website that shows the biotope of Sulawesi shrimps.
Thought you guys with Sulas would be interested. (Need Google translate to English).

I check those babies, I can only see 2, it seem they are only CRS or red wind, which came from a pinto mixed with other shrimps. same for me, if shrimps don't do well, I will keep miniture puffers.

You did well, they probably didn't have what you ordered exactly so made it up with what they had. You got a lot for your money there, wow! I have just ordered my LAST lot of taiwan bee shrimps today so should get those next week, 5 black, 10 blue, 10 red assorted mix! If this lot don't work out it will be dwarf spotted rasboras in that tank in future? Simon

When your sons blue start breeding you may think again and take some of his and maybe the last 2 yellows you have will survive, so don't give up entirely at this point, just take a break for now! There are a few shrimp specialists in USA who do delivery so they should be safe, flip aquatics, the shrimp farm etc, so mull that over for a few weeks??? I have just spent £150 on shrimps today for my LAST try next week! I must be insane but at least I KNOW if it doesn't work this time then its fish instead? Simon

I have decided that I will be done with Shrimp. Not many places carry them in our area and mail order for everything aquatic has had horrible results. I had a company send me two orders of plants because the first they sent died, not melted, died. The second batch was the same. I won't be doing mail order any more because I know it isn't me when I have the same plants in the same tank that are thriving.
