Substrate Mineral Additives

Hi all,

I was reading a post on here about mineral powders etc. But cant seem to find it again.

Just wanted to know which substrate additives are the best or what is essential/recommended to add under and on substrates?

(For crystals, tibees etc)

Thanks,

Kevin.

Hi Kevin,

To help clarify, could you please let us know what are you trying to achieve with the substrate additives? To encourage growth of beneficial bacteria? To 'boost' the buffering effect of old aqua/shrimp soil/substrate? To help cycle a new tank? To remineralise the water to help shrimps moult? There are a few different 'additives' that comes to mind depending on what you are trying to achieve.

I would not say any substrate additives is 'essential'. Is it recommended? Perhaps so, but personally I have never added any 'additives' to my substrate. I add some 'additives' when required during my weekly feeding on a rotational basis.

I used both GenChem and Boss Aquaria products with great results.

Specifically, I use GenChem Aminovita-P, GenChem Beta-G, Boss Mineral Powder and Boss Booster.

When I have shrimplets, I use GenChem Biozyme and Boss Baby Powder.

I am probably overdoing it as I believe the above products have similar ingredients but I might as well use them since I won some of them from SKF comps from our generous sponsors.

All the above products are available from most of SKF sponsors if you are interested.

Sorry I probably didn't answer your question in relation to substrate additives but thought I'll share what I do with my tanks anyway.

Perhaps others would have advice if you could clarify your intentions for wanting to use substrate additives.

Cheers,

JC

HI JC,

Basically interested in understanding additives for all of what you mentioned.

The post I read explained what each additive does from producing beneficial bacteria, providing essential nutrients and longer lasting substrates. It was a really good thread but I lost it :(

Though I am mainly interested in how I can use boss aquaria boss booster and boss mineral.

Thanks,

Kev.

Hi Kev,

Boss Aquaria @Squiggle is a sponsor of SKF so I would suggest that you ask him directly. Perhaps the below thread might help or check out their website..

The links below are copied from Boss Aquaria's website.

Hope this helps. :)
