Lowkeys B18 Power Protein

KeenShrimp

Recommended Posts

I have been trailing this product for about 8 months now:

Ingredients: Lactic acid bacteria, crustaceans calcium, reduced maltose, mulberry powder, yeast

I cannot argue with the fact that it increases my berried ratio among females after feeding. I sceptically attributed it to the protein component only initially, but trialling one tank on protein- high Ebita Breed Hinomaro bentou and another tank on B18, I still find B18 has a more pronounced effect on fertility.

Whether it is potentially the Lactic Acid Bacteria strain used, the highly absorbable form of calcium used, the digestability of the yeast protein or a combination of all above, it appears to work.

Dosage: Once a week, small amount.

Highlights:

- very little is used, so it lasts a long time as it is very concentrated.

- the shrimp are attracted to the food supplement when put in the tank.

- it completely breaks apart into a fine particle mush so that all shrimp can have a bite of the small portion dosed

- it indeed does increase berried rate

Concerns:

- not available for purchase in Australia yet. Available in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong.

- possible water contamination potential if too much is dosed in nano tank.

Are you able to quantify how many extra shrimp became berried on the B18 compared to the high protein diet?

I bought some last year to test it. Didnt notice a huge difference to be honest while using it. I definetly wouldnt buy it again considering how much it cost and how little you get !!!!

I am not sure what factors might be at play here given that some people get results and some don't. I think the reason why I get a good berried rate with B18 is because I mostly fed highly vegetable based products until recently- hence the B18 being very concentrated and high in protein might have been the trigger.

@anthonyd: what type of main diet do you feed? Is it one already consisting of a fair amount of protein perhaps?

In terms of quantifying @fishmosy : this is quite difficult, but I will use my main TB tank as an example. When I do not dose B18, I hardly have any berried females apart from the one loner every now and then. After feeding B18- within 1-3 days, I have at least one berried female, sometimes 2 at the same time. My TB's are hardly prolific breeders in a 240 litre tank, so I use the B18 to chug my population along as I have a lot of space to be filled ? Because it happens so quickly after the B18, I suspect the ingredients might force a molt, much like chitosan. But it is just not possible to be sure unless someone from Lowkeys actually offers some input here...

Fair enough. I also tend to feed mainly vegetable matter and a protein boost for a day or two generally gets the ladies berried

Looks very similar to the kale tablets I got from Dean a few years back, I've still got a supply and my shrimp do go crazy for it.

I feed mainly different foods from Cologne Shrimp Food and a lot of leaves.

Shrimp definitely loved this product but it is too expensive when you have a very high number of shrimps to feed.

I did recently the translation of lowkeys and other japanese brand products for their european agent.

The ingredients for the B18 were japanese viper powder ( 88%) and dextrin ( 12%).

Hi @anthonyd the ingredients in my original post were consistent information from direct sellers of the product. It does not mention the viper powder at all.

Ingredients: Lactic acid bacteria, crustaceans calcium, reduced maltose, mulberry powder, yeast

Phew, glad the ingredients were clarified.

The closest I could google on Viper Powder is something about a red viper (snake) powder.

I use the B18 power protein as well, and have been for 2 years.

I cannot scientifically prove it, but everytime I feed the shrimp after a long gap (basically when I remember), the shrimp have berried up after a couple of days. It works.

And I like it cause it breaks into a fine powder after a few minutes in the water, which gives shrimplets another source of food.

So shrimplets gets a good source of protein for good growth rates.

If you are having issues with shrimplet survival rates, this is one food product you can try.

Glad you get good results too @jayc. If we can't buy B18 in Australia  or mythical Viper powder, we might be able to cash in on Aussie Taipan powder ??

Every animal you have in australia seems to be lethal for human so i m guessing not the best for shrimp.

We dont have any snakes in Ireland, only one type of frog and one newt and the only sharks i saw while surfing or spearfishing were basking sharks, big but without teeth

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Hi Guys,  Does anyone know where to buy PRL shrimps in WA, not the CRS please. Thanks Regards

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
