Pond Idea & Red Rilis

Built this small pond from left over material to 8+ years ago, and its time for a revamp.....never like the appearance, as it looks like a tombstone, and the goldfish struggles due to the pond depth of 300mm cooking it during the Perth' hot summer months.

Thinking of building something out of this world, and different....ideas ? Glass front, increasing depth....

Cleaned it out, and miraculously, found a red Rilis, in its dirty murky and yucky water..... Temp gets down to 10, and has raised up to probably 30+...must've been in there for the past 1-2 months, as I used this pond to throw my frogbits in, and it must've hijacked with it.... Tested the water , and PH was 7.2, and TDS was 790pm !!!

Wild love to convert this into an outdoor cherry breeding tank.....but the challenges is Perth hot weather and cold winter... excessive sun=algae could perhaps be combated wi a UV ? All idea and suggestions welcome

hey bb that sounds like awsome idea.. the glass front sounds good but even better would be perspex as its outside maybe less of a danger if one of the kids accidently breaks it something..?

increasing the depth will also create less of a jump in water temps.. or lets say slower spikes..

i knowna few people who use ponds for cherries and seem to have huge numbers breeding up in summer they also get pretty HUGE?.. !

winter on the other hand will drastically slow down breeding numbers..

there is alsso a couple people usong heaters outside in ponds too...as long as u can get some of the heat roll thingies or something to cover up at night to not use up too much electricity..

alagae 3ould be a plus for shrimp breeding because of all the food but not so good for display..

oh i almost forgot u WILL NEED a mesh or something to keep birds from eating ur shrimp..

Sounds like a plan but perspex has scratching problems unless you use the right cleaners, UV would be a must to keep the suspended algae at bay.

I have built a few glass front ponds in display homes and used toughened glass, one of them I used a sheet in front of the pond glass just in case the kids through a ball, it was a easy to remove sheet for easy cleaning. The biggest is 15,000lts, 80cm deep and is part of the living room window, never did take photos DAM.

Thanks honcho and Bob....wish I hadn't seen that pic Bob....coincidentally, refurbishing my patio area, and that's given me all sorts of ideas ! LOL

Definitely will have a cover, due to leaves falling etc...it'll be a closed system. Heating should be an issue (except for cost), but the heat during the summer will be an issue.....

That pond was dead easy to do, it has 19mm toughened glass 60cm high, I can not find the bigger one DAM

Go for it and make your dream pond in the patio, that way you can have a BBQ for fish nutz and talk KRAP LOL.

I know what I'd do with a pond with a clear panel, but this isn't a rainbowfish/ ANGFA forum so... I'm out ;)

you could like super size it and turn it into a koi pond or maybe try a planted pond or put some high quality goldfish in there like top view ranchu.
