I've finally given into temptation and not only setup but recieved my first ever CRS. They seem to be a lot more active than Cherry varieties. The tank I have them in, isn't much to look at so no photos of the tank or shrimp yet. They look like a mix of A and S *maybe* some S+. So I'm hoping to cut my time with them before moving onto some SS/ SSS, Snow Whites and SS CBS/ Mishlings, by then the price will have dropped and I'll have a better idea if they can survive a summer here.

Hopefully when they settle down more and colour up, and grow a little I'll take some photos :)

The public has spoken and pics have been added. I should also add some specs.

The tank is an 18" but taller than standard (no tape measure handy to measure)

Filtration is one of these sponge filters http://www.aquariumonlinestore.com.au/products-page/aquarium-filters/air-driven-filters/sponge-filter-104/

Substrate is 4L of UP Aqua Shrimp Sand with a packet of Beni Bachi Fulvic Grains thrown in.

Lighting is a 30cm Aqua Zonic LED

Juwel Digital Thermometer. Expensive, but reliable and Guaranteed not to leak.

That's great news Chris, glad to see you diving into the shrimp world....I've had tanks for 35+ years, and the shrimp hobby has fascinated and I reckon it's the absolute best...it's got everything ! Doesn't matter what your tank looks like, we all love pics.

Well my shrimp tanks aren't display tanks/ quality so I won't photograph them :p

Yes that's a dried mulberry leaf in the foreground sitting on top of some of my moss rocks. *sigh*

I'm told that the grades are more based on solidarity of colour and intensity as opposed to pattern, so I guess this just makes him a tiger tooth A grade?

Very nice Chris, great shrimp tank....if you have access to a Ca & GH test kit (silly question I know), post or PM me your results ....and will prove a theory...

No can do on Ca but when I filled up the tank, I swear my GH was lower than it currently is.... I'm off to do a water change.... Current GH in tank.. 18, out my tap..... 8. I'll play with works Ca test tomorrow. Heck I'll probably just buy it.

I'm sure some of you guys will have a heart attack if you knew how hot my tank got today.:crushed:

Thank god I have a cooling fan coming soon......

Thanks lachie. If they thrive, I'll be happy. After today's first reminder that it's not summer, my tank hit 27 degrees.

CRS @ 27 is heading towards the danger zone ! The cooling fan may reduce the temp by 2-4 degrees ? But our summer is yet to hit ! Is there a plan b ? GH at 18 ?, what do you use to raise it up so much from 8 ?

Well there isn't really a plan B. The cooling fan and iceblocks were/ are Plan B.... as for GH. I don't add anything I swear it was at 12 last time but not 100% sure. Last time I tested it out of my tap it was 12, I have some rocks that MAY have bumped up the GH. Obviously I'll have to monitor it to rule them out....... YAY Shrimp :P

Nice set up btw. I don't know why you were so shy about showing it. Looks like a good shrimp tank too me ?

Since your setup is in front of a window anyways, You could always turn the light off to try drop a degree off the temp. I know it's not much but that in conjunction with the fan and ice blocks might help a little. You don't have any plants that would require any extra lighting so what you get from the windows should be sufficient for the shrimp.

At this stage I'm not adding any GH boosters or anything. I have some stuff if I need to use it, but haven't had to yet. The lighting I have on there is LED so there's very little heat to effect the temp. It's mainly for viewing and photographing.

      Finally set up the 30L Shrimp Tank

      It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

      I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding?       Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

      You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
