Tetras and Shrimps

I,m about to set up a tank with shrimps and a few fish. Pictures of other people's tanks often include Neon Tetras but I have not seen any with the Cardinal Tetras that I would like to keep - is there a reason for this ?

Would Cardinals be ok with the shrimps ?

Hi StephenR

firstly welcome to SKF.

Cardinals don't go with shrimps for several reasons.

Cardinals are much bigger than neons, and they have been know to harass and eat shrimp. I have seen Cardinals hunt shrimp by chasing and biting shrimps legs, antenna, and tail, until the shrimp is dead.

I wouldn't even recommend keeping Neons with Shrimp. You never know.

Cardinals also prefer warm 27-28deg C temperatures.

Shrimp prefer cool 22-23deg C temperatures.
