Why is the Moss Dying?

so... i decided retie my moss on the wood, i did this 5 days ago, and it looks like its already dying but i dont know why since all the other moss in the tank is doing fine. the only thing what is abit weird is it look like its turning white, not brown

all i can think is, that its to much light for it, maybe it was undergrowth that i put there and it doesnt like it? or is it just super fast growth? i thought that be lighter green though

thoughts?

perplex, I find that all new growth on my java moss has a much lighter colour to it. How white is it? Have you got a better picture because from the photo just looks like the light is making it look white

all the white bits look like there turning brown now, but i still got no idea why, its the same moss that was there to begin with, just maybe swapped around

Do you use ferts? Could be low nutrient + high light making that happen. Although I thought most mosses weren't very demanding when it came to nutrients and lighting. I use ADA ferts in my CRS tank without any issues and plants go crazy

i use ADA green gains after i cut plants and moss or move them and retie them, it helps them bounce back super fast! but as the other have said it might be an idea to add some ferts

yes i do, but this moss was already tied down to this same piece of wood, so i havent changed anything, ive got the same moss growing fine still as well in other parts of the tank, just all this moss i retied isnt looking great

Did you take it out of the water for an extended amount of time?

I found that if the moss is out of the water for awhile it does die back a bit.

they have ferts, they have just been retied, and maybe moved around

green gains isn't a fert its a growth hormone, its application is to aid plants and moss when they are stressed ( when you move them, cut them, replant/ tie them)  

it was recommended to me a while ago when i was more in to moss as a great product to accelerate growth when propagating

thanks, but i dont use that, i just replied to neo saying i do use ferts

i think Disciple must of hit the nail on the head, thats the only thing thats different, i know now just to leave it in water, i just didnt think 1 hour would do much to them, guess ill see next time when i tie them on again

i notice it them starting to drying out around 10-15mins, so if you doing lots of ties then i would mist to keep them moist

      It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

      I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding?       Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

      You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
