Hi all,

nothing special to ask, just wanting to share the fact that my tangerine tiger female is berried. I have only 2 females and a male left, and seing this berried female is really pleasant.

I cross fingers every days. Have been experiencing days dog this year, and my shrimps really help me forgetting these bad moments...

A friend of mine brought me some local shrimps that I call "local zebra" Very nice too, and I found 1 female berried this morning. Crossing fingers twice :cool:

I had zebs for a while, never got them breeding though, what's your tank for them like?

They are sharing a tank with orange Neo.

Unfortunately, the female lost all her eggs after few days. None is berried at the moment, I have 7 left, 6 have passed away... If I have time, I will try to find the spot tomorrow and collect some more...

After I loss all  my tangerines and local zebra during summer, I patiently wait for temperatures to cool down...

Now, it's really more affordable, and my tank have gone down to 25~27°C, and I decided this week-end to go back hunting local zebras.

Here is what I collected this saturday:

Nothing yet about the zebra, though one of the "swiss cheese" is now berried ^^)

As for the old colony, I saw some zoe (larvae) before the heat spike, then I lost all of them. I hope I will have better luck with those ones.
It seems these ones do not release shrimplets but zoe like the Caridina Typus or the Amano, even though they do carry big eggs, like the Neo.

Found a second "swiss cheese" berried this morning ^^

On another side, I have lost about all the blue whit white collar (3rd picture on top, in 1st post). I believe I made something wrong or introduced a substance which might have been lethal to them when I cleaned the front glass, probably I didn't wash carefully enough my hands or the sponge, cause I noticed these shrimps were "running" everywhere in the tank just after the cleaning, and then died one by one in the following days.

Strangly, I did not loss any of the orange Neo which share the same tank...

Also, doing a water change in this tank this morning, I noticed this kind of "jelly", close to the surface, attached to the glass.This weird thing is about 1 cm long, looks like if there are some kind of "eggs" inside, and really look like jelly. I found several of them that I swept out.
Any idea of what this could be?

I'm not 100% sure, but they look like mosquito larvae, after the mossie has emerged.

I thought this beauty is a caridina. i also thought she is a local, and even endemic shrimp, but it seems this is rather a Paracaridina, the Paracaridina Haivanensis, aka Princess Bee from VietNâm...:huh-: also known as Princess Bee Shrimp, Hue Bee (Honey Vietnamese)

What you guys do you think?

I thought you caught it from the wild? Who or what has made you think that the shrimp is from Vietnam?

Yes, I caught it from the wild.

Though, I didn't find it in the book listing local species.

Then, I remember that in the 60's, they introduced the Black Bass in the Yate's lake - probably one of the more stupid things they have ever done - for promoting "sport fishing"
After the Black bass destroyed about everything, it is said they try introducing taiwanese shrimps and Tilapia Mozambica to build a live stock for feeding the Black Bass... When you are stupid, you stay stupid...

That being said, I started searching, thinking this shrimp was a caridina cantonensis, more probably a wild Black Crystal, but the wild Black Crystal has orange/yellowish spots on the nose and the tail.
Then, I found the Hue Bee. Pictures of this vietnamese shrimp are showing exactely the same than I caught.

For these reasons, I'm pretty sure this shrimp is not an endemic one. I'm going to the spot today and see if I can catch some more.

Well, I went for another quest today. I dive in the river 2 hours and only found 2 of them.

Then, I had the good idea to walk a bit and moved to another spot, more shallow, more hotter as it is in full sun, more muddy, but which seems to offer more hidding places, and I found 16 in1/2 hour ^^

At the beginning, they were almost pale, under stress I believe. Now that they have been acclimatized and set in their new home, they are slowly recovering their colors, and see what surprise I have : :i-can-fly:

some red and some wine!

I also found some light blue shrimps with a very bright line on the back, and ssome more swiss cheese or naked tail like

This has been another good day :happy:

      Finally set up the 30L Shrimp Tank

      It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

      I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

      Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

      You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
