More and more people are keeping them. They are becoming a lot more affordable too. There are even rumors of people breeding them in tap water and cherry like parameters. So maybe in another few months they will go from the 100 ea to 50 ea.

I need another tank!

Don't worry @jayc I'm in the same boat :crying: 

@Disciple They are differently getting cheaper and more readily available. Apart from cost, its the temp require or around 28 that holding me back. But if like you say, if their breeding in tap water (don't know why you would risk it) that would be a good thing

Temperatures in Australia makes it easier and cheaper to keep a tank warm, than it is to chill it. A heater is so much easier and cheaper to buy than a chiller.

 

Let me know when anyone has a pair for sale @ $50 ea.

I have an empty tank waiting to be filled.

You are probably starting to see more as it's getting into Summer and breeders are prepared to ship them rather than ship in winter and risk DOA. More should equate to cheaper one would think.

Well these guys are 6+ generation tank bred here in aus.

I have found they guys pretty easy to keep as long as wp are all good like any shrimp.

My water parameters for these guys are-

ph 8.2

tds 200

temp 28.5

They live in a 45cm cube,with 3cm coral sand base,2cm crushed scorpion on top and some lava rock features,running a 1000ltr canister filter,double sponge and heater/chiller..algae growth for them to graze is most important.

      The tanks are only 16L, for it to reach 31c, it isn't hard.

      Sorry to hear that.  Wow, the temperature must have been very hot for the water to get to 31degC.

      It's room temperature, during the past week Hong Kong has become an oven. I will get another water cooler before I start again. The 3 shrimps seems to be doing well for the past 11 hrs.

      Well, what can I say, de ja vu, was it a heater malfunction or just ambient room temperature? I wouldn't hold out too much hope for the 3 survivors either if my experience was anything to go by - but I will keep my fingers crossed they survive! Really sorry to hear the news and if anyone can feel your pain that would be me. Hopefully you can just remove the cooked shrimps and start again without having to go through the whole process of re-setting up the tank and cycling from scratch like I am? Hope everything is going well with the old tank. The shops sound similar to ours in old towns, they started as houses and then get divided to shops street level and basement and the upper floors are either offices or residential. Simon

      update, some upsetting new, all shrimps except 3 has died in the new tank, as the water in the tank went upto 31 celcius, the other 3 was half dying, I put them into the old tank, and seem to be ok for now.
