hey all i bought a second hand eheim 2217 which turned out to have a leaking tap on one of the double-taps for easy filter moving / cleaning.

to replace with the genuine part costs over $50. ive done a bit of searching but wonder if anyone knows or could think of a cheaper solution?

thanks :-)

Where exactly does it leak from?  Can you refit the hose or replace the o'ring on the male tap to fix it? ... or is it leaking from the tap pivot point under the handle?... or is it cracked?

In case someone has a spare - is it the 16mm or the 12mm tap set that is leaking?

I see taps for $26 on ebay (from the UK "The Pond King").  A few people on AL forum get their eheim spares from there

I've seen people make some double taps up using parts from Bunnings. Can't remember where I saw it, may have been on here, but it looked like it would work well and was relatively cheap.

hey guys it seems im not autoamtically following posts in threads i create! thankyou both for your input i really appreciate it.

it is the 16mm tap that is leaking. it seems to come from the tap pivot point (did you come up with that definition/description @Grubs ?

@neo-2FX you're right how  hard could it be  to make my own double tap. i was looking at these kind of fittings from bunnings yesterday and today for a seperate reason and i noticed that 13mm and 19mm seem to be the common available pieces and 16mm parts are less available. There is a wonderful plastics and irrigation specialist I might call them and see if they can sort me out. Not having double-taps (on the inlet especially.....) when you need them - is not fun !!!

I agree finding 15mm or 16mm fittings is a pain. I soften 16mm hose with hot water and they slip onto the 19mm irrigation barb pieces fine with a bit of twisting. Removing it though would be near impossible after it cools off.

Read this from somewhere and have been doing this since without any issues. Something you might like to consider?

Hope this helps.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.

Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
