Hi, im wanting to make a rack, something like this one is interesting to make, can i ask you what kind of lifting pump you used from the sump? and is there the same ammount of water coming into each tank? my worry is that it will either get to high flow in each tank or to low

Hey Hoff, 

Each tank has its own outflow, so will only fill to a certain point and then return to the sump.

I am using a Tunze return pump. I found the one used on my original rack consistent so went with them again. It pumps to a tee section and each hose going into tanks has a tap inline. I have adjusted these taps so all tanks get a similar amount of water each hour. 

To measure the flow each tank gets, I found it easier viewing the water volume leaving the tank as a guide.

Thanks s1l3nt! I am a procrastinator, so it gave me a chance to make changes along the way. I am wrapt now, it's just a case of watch and enjoy. 

The hardest part is choosing breeding programs and sticking to them only.

One of my tanks has been producing some interesting offspring. Just had to share.

So far there are around five or six. In Red/White and Blue/Black. The markings seem fairly consistent so far.

I have seen these from two separate drops so far. I will be isolating and testing the reported theory that the traits will pass down the line. Enjoy!!

I have decided i will aspire to replicate your rack @newbreed. I was just wondering if u would mind shsring your sump design? I got about 9months to a year b4.i start so no rush.

 

Also wondering how much it set u back and is that black covering all 1 piece?

Hey @OzShrimp

The black on front is corflute. Got the idea from Dean's original thread. Big sheet at bunnings is around $14 and is attached by Velcro dots for easy removal.

Tanks cost around $85 each

Sump was $130

Heater $55

Return pumps around $140

Rack $300

marine ply $120

pvc $200

polytube $50

lights $600

around $2445

not including soil, mineral powder, salty shrimp, bee max, mineral balls, cholla, moss, feeding tubes. Lol

first time I have added it up!! ?

I bought individual pieces over a few months, so never felt like a massive sum. 

Can still gladly say it's worth every cent. Very happy with it.

i will try to get clearer sump image. But very similar to previous one I made, based on Jays thread.

dont let the total put you off, that's eight plumbed tanks and two stand alone units. So ten tanks all up!!

Lol was gonna say thanks for killing the dream lol. 

Plan now to get the rack for 1 lot and sump and a tank or 2 then slowly expand. Is the rack hard to put together cause on bunnings website ahows it in individual pieces

      Finally set up the 30L Shrimp Tank

      It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

      I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding?       Yes it’s super accurate to position where I want now and stay there- I am satisfied.  All the fish and shrimpers are doing excellent! Coming up on 4 years running!

      You must be pleased with that, it looks better and is much more robust and less likely to damage or leaks! The tank looks very natural now it has been running for a time. I see the ember tetras, how are the blue shrimp doing, I see a few? The cat and dog look very content and unimpressed, lol.
