So I went out to a different creek towards Yeppoon and took a trusty net and some bread as bait to see what I could find.

While waiting for the fish to get used to the disturbance and come back around net strike range I spied this following snail, which when I first saw it thought was a palm tree seed, but then logic told me palm tree seeds similar to this one don't just appear out of the blue.....nor do they start eating the bread.

Shape wise it reminds me of a pond or bladder snail, but gold? And so big?

I will try to get some photos of its actual antennae but because it lacks the trap door and separate mouth piece just has one solid food I know its a long way removed from notopala sp. Also when disturbed where a notopala closes its door and sulks and you can not make it stick to a wall, this one gladly takes hold of the surface you place it on.

Might be Austropeplea lessoni. The whirl of the shell is the right way around.

I'm inclined to go with Austropeplae sp. just not so sure on it being a blond snail, its eye stalks don't see long enough.

Ok this guy has really got me stumped, because of the area I found it I am REALLY hoping its not some form of mystery snail. I did find one photo of a similar snail being called a mystery snail but it still had the little trap door which this one lacks.

So what I know so far about it.....

After having it in a suspended guppy fry saver that had its sides well above the surrounding tank water, this snail had no qualms about leaving the water and climbing over the side of the fry saver to let itself loose in the tank.

It has no trap door, when its in its shell all you can see is its entire foot.

It has the small yellow spots on its foot/ body that I have seen on plenty of other native snails. And I have never noticed such spotting on apple or mystery snails.

Its a quick mover, not sure if that's just because its looking for a preferred food or if its just a quick snail.

It also seems very happy skimming across the underside of the water surface.

Has noticeable eyes and what looks like a small mouth, and stumpy antennae which could be an environmental factor that I don't know about.
