Brownish coloured algae

Recommended Posts

I often get a brownish coloured algae on the glass in my shrimp tanks, and in one particular tank it's all over the leaves of my plants. It will wipe off to some extent, but keeps coming back.

Any ideas why I've got this, and how to get rid of it?

Otocinclus love that stuff.

It's actually one of the less obtrusive and destructive algae to have.

Having it all over the place means less surface area for the more nasty green algae to grow.

I'd leave it alone.

Have you tried to increase the water movement in your tank, sometimes discourages brown alge growth, however not too strong for the shrimp of course. Hopefully the problem has cleared by itself.
