Shrimp 101

Thank you!! It's taken me a while to find how often I should do a water change once the RCS tank is ready. There's a lot of advice on how to add the water, but not so much on how often.

There are a lot more great articles on SKF.

Along with varying levels of complexity. There are articles for beginners, and then there are articles for the more advanced. Read them all and you will be well on your way to becoming an expert.

Start with all the stickies first.

I am slowly but surely doing that, I don't have internet at home at the moment so I do all my reading here between my work and that's when I'm actually in the office, but I'll get through all of it yet!

If you are not using RO water what is the best thing to use to treat it?

Hey @Shrimpin, if you are not using RO, then the next best option is clean Rain water. If you can't collect rain water, then the next option after that is tap water, which is what the majority of people use. Just make sure you treat it with dechlorinator to remove chlorine and chloramines. Some tap water can be low in TDS as well, so a small amount of remineralising mix (Calcium & Magnesium) can be used to bring the TDS up to ideal parameters.

Wow, thank you. I’ve received great info here. So much reading to do, the diseases section is a little frightening, didn’t I here neocaridina were supposed to be “easy”. I will take a picture of white nose shrimp if he emerges. Found what I hope is a molt, and not a death, this morning. If someone can please confirm.

Here is a picture of the tiny shrimp.

Thats definitely a molt, and a great photo of one at that! A dead shrimps flesh usually goes pink (as when cooked) when it dies
